ATP 2025
It is impossible for the tennis tour to move on from the Big 3 for two reasons. First, it was always a Big 5. And secondly, three of the five are still there ! Andy Murray is coaching Novak, and Stan is still ripping backhands.
So while Jannick and Carlos captured all the big trophies in 2024, it remains to be seen whether the new gen has actually pushed the old guys off a cliff or not. Carlos looked positively human during parts of the year. And no one really knows whether Jannick got a boost from illegal enhancement.
Are you willing to place a bet that Rafa Nadal is not considering lacing it up next spring for some dirt ball action ? Although I feel like Roger Federer, who arrived and dominated first, stuck around too long to tangle with the likes of Tennys Sandgren. It seems to further cement Roger's legacy the more controversial Novak gets and the more years that Rafa takes to retire.
Novak, with Andy Murray on his team, will compete for a major in 2025. And we know that Jannick and Carlos will be defending. But who else out there can win a major ? The tour seems to be stuck with a ton of good players, but who might turn out to be great by the end of 2025 ?
Jack Draper grew up quick. It looks like Jack was still actually growing too, as he turned pro. He is a good example of someone who went from winning on the Challenger Tour one year and almost winning a major the next. I am going to place Jack on the list of possible slam winners in 2025 instead of Taylor Fritz precidely due to the fact that it did not take him long to put it all together.
Arthur Fils is going to make this list simply for his toughness. Fils is 20 years old and has 60 ATP wins. He hits as hard as anyone and actually has a team around him. Arthur can control a point but also possesses that all important ability to get to everything. It would be a hardcourt win in my opinion, so look out Aussie Open 2025.
Holger Rune is only 21 years old, and he has won 139 matches on tour. It is very clear that if he gets the right team around him, he can win multiple majors in the same year. All tennis players have to give in to a style. You cannot just dominate, and you just can't sit there and play defense the entire time either. Holger hasn't found his happy place yet, and the coaching he has received thus far has not realized this. Holger needs to make a plan based on the player that he is, and stick with that plan for an entire professional season.
The Argentines are coming. If one thing carries over to 2025, it will be the fine play of all the players from Argentina. Navone, Etcheverry, Cerundolo and Baez will all remain dangerous in 2025. Baez and Etcheverry could each win big though. Baez is a threat for the French only, but Etcheverry is a threat on hard courts too. This group will push eachother. In terms of winning big, I will take the group of Argentines over the group of Americans (Shelton, Fritz, Paul, Tiafoe).
