Australian Open 2025 PICKS

  You know what y'all, let's do this ! Welcome 2025. Let's get down to business. 

 It is my belief that that AO'25 will see so many upsets, that your head will spin. The first round of the men's draw features the most competitive collection of first round major matches in history. 

 Let's take a look at what we are looking at. 

 Nicolas Jarry will do the world a solid and defeat the no.1 seed, Jannick The Doper. Nic has the power. Nic has the motivation. How in the world anyone could bet against Nic Jarry here is beyond me.

 Anyone who does not think Schoolkate can beat the highly respected Taro Daniel should cease gambling. He can. He will.

 Hanfmann versus Marcos Giron is a match between tennis weirdos. I say this out of love. But both these two could easily be selling insurance. There is a quirky desire to hit the next ball in the court that drives these two. I think Marcos has refined his winning ways just enough to slip by Yannick here. 

 If you have followed me at all, you know my pick next is no surprise at all. Flavio keeps rolling into 2025 with a quality win against Ethcheverry. In the same vein, I think Talon Griekspoor shows how much he has grown up by dispatching the disconnected Hube Hurcacz. 

 Kecmanovic has been playing too much to start the year to escape Dusan Lajovic. Cam Norrie will reverse his fortunes while exposing Matteo. Both Rune and Tsitsipas will be out R1 and it won't even be close. Hopefully they'll both go away and be replaced at the top by players who care.

 Landulace is here to stay hay. So is Luca Nardi. Mannarino upsets the guy with the funky strokes that should have been corrected decades ago. Bublik wins. Bergs wins.

 The Other Coria doesn't have much time left. But "it's in the way that you use it," & Federico pulls this one out. Botic upsets DeMinaur. Fritz welcomes back Jenson, but beats him.

 Coric beats Garin, soundly. Altmaier proves he belongs. Monfils does not win round one. Shelton does not win round one. I think Roberto Bautista Agut thinks his way by Shapo. The War for Italy is won by Arnaldi. 

 Rublev loses to the Next Gen. Sonego loses to the last gen. Maroszan wins a wild one. Arthur defeats his Foe. Popyrin gets by Moutet. America's Krueger upsets UNC's Rinky.

 Tien wins. Medvedev loses to random wild card. Upstart American defeats Novak. Kotov wins. Opelka wins. Nagal upsets Machac. Jiri Lehecka wins. The Frenchman Gastons wins. Goffin & Fognini both win. Draper is upset by Navone's World. Safulin and Vuki both win. 

 Lucas Klein upsets Korda. Koepfer upsets local favorite Thompson. Nuno Borges wins. Nishioka is defeated. Alcaraz is defeated. Ruud is defeated. Mensik survives. Shang wins. Struff wins. 

 Carballes Baena starts the year well. He wins. Stricker also starts well and wins. Monteiro takes out Kei. O'connell takes out Paul in 5 sets. Gigante upsets Ugo. Bu wins. Halys wins. Otto upsets. Cazaux upsets. Darderi holds firm. Pouille fights but ultimately loses to SZ.

With their finely composed originals, along with their own twist on a catelog of songs from Jerry Garcia, Robert Hunter, Dickey Betts and Trey Anastasio, Muskrat Lightning puts on the best show on the shore.  Interestingly, I have never heard Muskrat Lightning play a Widespread Panic tune, but that's the band they mind me of most. These guys are not like any band you'll see on vacation, except perhaps on jam cruise. These guys get down. They might present some lyrics, some structure, but they yearn to slip into that jam sphere of influence that pulls you in and dunks your mind into the doughnut fryer.   What happened to the business minded Republican Party ? In my lifetime, a republican is supposed to be hyper efficient and no nonsense when it comes to problem solving in Congress. Classically, a republican has no time for the slow drudge of government and the tentacles of regulation. But in 2026 that has been turned on its head by Trump and his steroid pumping leadership. Muskrat Lightning 10-16 PRIMO'S

  The Allman Brothers, The New Orleans Meters, The Jerry Garcia Band, what group on Delmarva displays the ability to jam on these greats, and their own equally as awesome catalog ?  Muskrat Lightning is the answer. The scene was Beach Barrels in Ocean City. But the vibe was Haight Ashbury meets Congo Square. Muskrat Lightning threw down on Friday night. The energy was explosive, the people were emotional and the music reigned supreme. I was asked a few different times, "who are these guys, what's going on, are the doors locked  ?" It is surely difficult, at times, in our modern world, to find oneself. But Muskrat Lightning's radar thankfully locks in to the Phil Zone and the Uptown Lounge in Athens.
