The Weak & Unpopular Republicans
7/22
Pete Hegseth told Congress yesterday that the Pentagon couldn't pay the military and that they were running out of bombs. It doesn't matter what your political affiliation is, this is totally unacceptable. The Republicans must be voted out of power in a couple of months. This is such a broken record - a Republican Administration hunting weapons of mass destruction, but being forced to hunt down international law in order to do it. America can't turn the International Criminal Court on and off when it wants. We invented it.
The Republicans are hyper focused on wrecking the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian, the Ivy League, the National Mall and the White House, as they proclaim the need to eliminate all terrorism by further bombing Iran. The Republicans are also hyper focused on defunding federal agencies, laying off experts, firing inspectors and erasing federal unions, as they proclaim a renewed war on drugs featuring blatant murder before trial. That is quite a full plate. Thankfully they have engaged Democrats, the media and Congress itself as they have pursued all that, right ? ? ? ? ? ?
Steady streams of election denials and outlandish explanations of why Trump gets to enrich himself off the presidency come with all these "strategies," as does consistent support for white nationalism, a polite way of saying state supported racism. The Republicans have pardoned all the January 6th convicts because apparently they need them for future violence. The rhetoric around Republicans, as we head to the midterm, is that America is at some kind of crossroads. Supporters of the Republicans are increasingly an armed, violent, racist and loud minority. The vast unpopularity of the Republicans' trampling of the Constitution and Democracy, as well as the weakness of Trump on the world stage, has not quelled the alternative right. If you listen to the Republicans, they seem ready for a fight. But the country just needs to get ready for a vote.
The Republicans, despite pretty blatant weakness and lack of popularity, increasingly live inside a bubble where they believe they control the military and the government's bank account. This is not Democracy we have right now, not even close. The President blatantly talks like a dictator, and his followers in Congress simply turn government off and go home all the time. The voters have more to do then just pull the lever for Democrats. The voters have to recognize what the Republicans have turned into. The Republicans, once small government champions, suddenly want control of everything, while crushing dissent. Our country is caught in the throws of a wannabe dictatorship.
The Republicans can't say where Venezuela's oil revenues are at the moment, despite kidnapping the President and murdering his entire security staff. The Republicans have no end game for their racial profiling and federal prison camps, despite hardly any criminals at all being "rounded up." The Republicans haven't even attempted to deal with or excuse their actions on the high seas of the Caribbean. America's democracy is threatened by the Republican demand to skip the trial and go straight to the execution when it comes to suspicion of drug trafficking. This while their party is led by a man convicted of sexual misconduct, fraud and haunted by the January 6th Report. This while their party is led by a man who made over $1Billion in his first year back in office.
It is frankly incredible that the party that says the Russian Investigation was a hoax, now wishes to use foreign influence in our election system to take control of voter rolls in swing states exclusively. And the party that all got Department of Government Efficiency tatoos is totally out of money, out of exuses and out of time. Welcome to the midterm. It will be appropriate for Trump to remain in office with a Democratic majority keeping him in check. The next couple of years will unravel a regime christened by the Republican Party. The Putin-like parade of American wannabe oligarchs will do the walk of shame out of the White House. The dark, corporate funds behind insane priorities like killing renewables and handing over federal lands to townhouse builders like Billy Pulte will shine in the bright light. And the fundemental racism behind the war on immigrants will condemn the Republican Party as a whole, for a generation.
We have work to get back to, America. These Republicans must have their power taken away first.
