Muskrat Lightning - live music review

9/19/26 Muskrrat Lightning, Buxy's 'Saldy' Dog Saloon - Dry Dock 28 Stage The Grateful Dead weren't the best at what they did. They were the only ones who did what they did.  And so it is with Delmarva's no.1 jamband, Muskrat Lightning. With their finely composed originals, along with their own twist on a catelog of songs from Jerry Garcia, Robert Hunter, Dickey Betts and Trey Anastasio, Muskrat Lightning puts on the best show on the shore.  Interestingly, I have never heard Muskrat Lightning play a Widespread Panic tune, but that's the band they mind me of most. These guys are not like any band you'll see on vacation, except perhaps on jam cruise. These guys get down. They might present some lyrics, some structure, but they yearn to slip into that jam sphere of influence that pulls you in and dunks your mind into the doughnut fryer. Widespread Panic was just a bunch of deadhead Georgia explorers when they began. This is how organic Muskrat Lightning's...

Vote Democratic

It seems evident that the midterms will give America the chance to get it's politicians back to work. Whether you are a Dem, a Repub or an Indy voter, America has to fire the Republicans. It should be evident to any voter, that Dems have conservative voters and progressive voters. That's the big tent.  Let me get this straight. Crazy Robert Kennedy, crazy Rand Paul and nutso Ron Johnson, spend eight months "extracting" any notes from Tony Fauci they could find on eleven separate governments servers, but the Democrats are the "communists" ? Republicans who want Jack Smith jailed for obtaining their phone records concerning January 6th, just released to the public, 30k texts and over 500 voicemails from Dr. Fauci's time as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Desease.  This is stunning when you compare it to the Epstein Files, the war in Iran, the war on the high seas in the Caribbean and the war on renewable energy. The Republicans...

Political Science Digest - 8/7

The Trump administration was too busy trying to upend the Supreme Court to notice, but a member of NATO just signed a defensive pact with both Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.  The influence America once had in the world has slipped below the sand dunes. If you combine Elon Musk, history's wealthiest man and the person behind cutting off foreign aid, with Donald Trump, who takes credit for killing or jailing a number of heads of state, it's no wonder. Trump and his whacked out krewe have talked down to Nato, elevated Putin and have absolutely nothing as far as a foreign policy. Look at what the policy would be if they had to write it down and defend it: murder on the high seas, forget about the trial; murder a succession of leaders, bomb Iran relentlessly, but ultimately lose the war, our allies and the Straight of Hormuz; bring Vlad Putin to the United States of America and let him celebrate Russia's influence as he increases his attacks on Ukraine. But in the last week, Ameri...

Let's Explain It All To The Republicans Pt2

8/6 Public schools in the South have to close when it's hot because of a lack of air conditioning. That's from Houston to Baltimore. So while Republicans try to takeover school boards, in the name of Manifest Destiny, their hostilities towards the heavy lifting of education seem obvious. The Republicans feel it's a success to eliminate the Dept. of Education and throw the responsibility onto cash strapped states.   Persepolis, the Persian Empire, pistachios and poetry are all things our children should know about Iran. And if the name of your town didn't come from France, or some other country, it came from the 575 federally recognized American Indian tribes. The Republicans fear history since it upends everything they say on a daily basis. The Republicans attempt to speak for Christians as Marco Rubio says Trump told him his new mantra is, "a head for an eye." The tremendous ignorance is driving people to the midterm polls very soon. The Republicans forgot ...

Let's Explain It All To The Republicans

The Danube is giving up all of its WW2 ships. The Colorado River is in crisis. And the storms keep coming. Hurricane Katrina was known as a Once In A Thousand Years storm. But Ida hit some of the same spots with stronger winds 15 years later.  Inevitably, a great deal of the outrageous amount of money that gasoline refiners like Exxon are making presently, will go into renewable energy. Their industry research proved global warming was happening, and depsite what Republicans might imply, they have invested heavily into alternatives. The more Republicans deny climate related issues with water, energy and the economy, the more Biden and Harris look like a couple of geniuses. The Republicans have slashed funding for renewable energy, renewable energy jobs and and in doing so have run the American consumer into the hands of Saudi Aramco. Floating liquid natural gas platforms in Louisiana, fracking in Pennsylvania and Elon Musk's methane powered turbines, do not replace Biden's G...

Aaron Rogers has an imaginary wife

8/5 How long has Aaron Rogers been washed up ? Tuning in to watch Rogers play football, in his huge, awkward helmet, is like straining your neck to check out a car accident. His team, the Green Bay Packers, have had a better QB for years now. No one has ever seen Aaron Roger's wife. And apparently, the world cared that, as a forty year old man, he reunited with the family he ignored for half his life. Again though, people paid attention to that because Rogers is little more than tabloid news. At the height of the pandemic, Rogers lied to the public and the NFL. He thought it was cute to say he was immunized, when asked if he was vaccinated. Rogers didn't have the guts to say he would not get the shot. In fact, Rogers went so far as to promote my dog's heartworm medication, instead of the vaccine that Pfizer came up with.  This is America, and no one gets critized for having an opinion. You get criticized when you value your own lies more than the public'a health. This...

JJ Wolf up 283 places in ATP rankings

8/2 JJ Wolf, who is competing as a wildcard in Cincinatti, just shot up the rankings a whopping 283 spots, to #280. If I followed it correctly, JJ had a wildcard to the qualies in Montreal. But he wound up winning the Vancouver Challenger and couldn't make it. He's beaten Mark Lajal, Coleman Wong, Jay Friend and Z.Z. Zhang as of late, not a bad list. JJ seems ready for a return to the top of the sport. Even with the huge jump, and the Cinci wildcard, JJ is far from the U.S. Open entry list. He could garner a wildcard into the qualies for sure. But with Cincinatti, and perhaps Winston Salem, JJ has a shot at winning some matches on the ATP tour before the year is out. This rise, after injuring his shoulder, is positively Agassi-like.  Greg "Lex" Gunther Spring Hill College Tennis USPTA / PTR / YONEX USA
